Isaac had surgery (pyloromyotomy) Tuesday afternoon to correct a condition called Pyloric Stenosis. A muscle where the stomach empties into the intestine is contracted so that food can't get out of the stomach and into the intestine where the nutrients are absorbed and all the other necessary processes occur. The result is projectile expulsion of stomach contents which makes baby very very sick if not treated. Basically they aren't taking in any water or nutrients, so you can imagine where that leads. He lost a pound in about 5 days while we were in Wyoming.
The treatmeent is the pylormyotomy which is a surgery that cuts the pyloric muscle to release the pressure on the intestine. As Avery likes to say, "TaaDaa!" Problem solved! The hardest thing from our perspective was letting them take him from our arms and put him to sleep. Isaac did great during the whole ordeal and is recovering very well! He is eating and keeping food down, so we are amazed! There are no expected long term problems or side effects.
At the hospital, they gave hime a minitature hospital gown.....there is no escaping those things apparently. At least he got to keep his dignity and wear a diaper.
